Gait analysis forms part of the overall assessment of the locomotor system. The main
objective of the overall assessment focuses on the position and alignment of the body
and the relationship of the foot to the ground during gait. This involves discriminating
between normal and abnormal gait indicators using visual or computerized gait analysis.
Gait depends on the repeated
performance of the lower limbs of a
sequence of motions that
simultaneously advance the body
along a desired line of progression
while maintaining a stable weight
bearing posture.
